Winter Inspiration: Knitwear and Witchy Vibes

December 19 2012 / editorials

Whilst this time of year comes with far more than its fair share of glitter and glam, here at Craft & Culture we prefer a darker palette. That’s not to say muted; it’s just as dramatic, but with a gothic edge rather than a glitz. Here are a couple of designers we are loving right now, to get us inspired for a season of dark, luxurious and statement dressing.

Steinunn is an Icelandic label that incorporates classic and gothic style elements for a couture yet wearable line. Dramatic ruffles, directional headwear, bows and dark tones bring to mind a ‘gothic lolita’ grown up. In spite of the somber victoriana feel, these pieces would be incredibly fun to wear for a black christmas.

For accessories, we’re equally in love with the witchy offerings from BloodMilk. Their pieces are a mix of strong and delicate, with influences from religion, the animal kingdom, and the supernatural. Designer J.L. Schnabel – also an artist and staff writer for Hi-fructose Magazine – creates jewelry that is powerful, beautiful and romantic.

Suddenly we’re no longer dreaming of a white Christmas…
