current interest: Grey Hope: the persistence of melancholy
Here’s a project dedicated to the cultural pedigree of melancholy. It is a collection of artwork and writings by international writers, photographers and painters. I found that the Nordic writers have an especially poignant relationship with melancholy being that it is such an imperative characteristic of the landscape they live in. I believe those of us who live in the Pacific Northwest can understand the sea melts into the sky melts into the land concept and appreciate its ramifications.
